Hailey's Adventures
A collection of short stories
FIRST SNOW DAY
On the first snow day of the school year, all the children in the class were looking out the window thrilled about what's happening outside. Hailey and her teacher were at a table facing the window when her teacher pointed out the window to look at the falling snow.
"Snowman!" Hailey said.
Her teacher was thrilled Hailey made her own connection of snowman to snow without any prompting. While Hailey doesn't always have a lot to say, she consistently demonstrates that she is has the ability to associate concepts to things she's been exposed to.
Painting With Friends
Arts & Crafts is something Hailey always enjoys. While at school, she enjoys cutting shapes out of paper, using glitter and glue, and of course, watercolor painting.
Normally, Hailey likes to focus on her own activities during Arts & Crafts. However, this one day, her teacher asked what one of the classmates were doing by pointing to the other girl and asking.
"Watercolor!" Hailey responded.
Again, this was not a prompted response. Although not speaking to her classmates normally, she always seems to know what is going on and where her friends are doing around her.
Fun With A Guitar
Hailey's love for music doesn't stop at singing. She loves her instruments too. One of her first gifts was a baby guitar, and she's loved the instrument since. She has now upgraded to her pretty purple ukulele with the pink flower designs.
Often times, we will find Hailey sitting on the living room floor or couch slowly strumming the ukulele while singing along and giggling.
Hailey Discovers Her Emotions
Not every day can be happy and easy. There are days that Hailey just feels sad. She has started to realize that is it ok to let her teacher, Jane, know that she's not happy.
"I'm sad!" says Hailey
"It's normal to feel sad." responds Jane, "What do you want to do now?"
"I want a hug!" Hailey insists.
It took some time, but our little girl discovers that she's able to feel unhappy. However, she also discovered that hugs makes here feel better. It's great for us too since we love giving them to her.
Growing Connections At Rivendell
Who would have thought our little lady has a green thumb. Hailey's school, Rivendell, has a greenhouse class named Growing Connections and she loves attending. Hailey enjoys watering the soil in the greenhouse, and when she sees a spray bottle and a pot of soil, she often does not need verbal prompting and knows to spray the soil.
The teacher, Brigitte often sings the song, "1, 2, 3, 4, 5 sprays for Hailey," all while Hailey takes the bottle and sprays along happily.
